Grandma D's Tree & Wreath Farm

Ready Set Review, me

This is my first review here on Take Root and Write. I am excited to bring you reviews of beneficial, unique, quality, items that you can relate to. It's December and most of us are getting out our Christmas Decorations. Mine are out, but not up! I will admit I love interior design and although I have not studied Design formally, I have been applying natural instinct since I was a young girl. Mom would come home to find the Living Room re-arranged, or later my entire room painted, changed around and customized.

Christmas is no different. Having kids did pose one problem at Christmas time. The Tree is mine. Did I say that out loud? I love my designer tree that I put together each year. I remedied this very early on. My Daughter has her very own tree. She always has. Was a small tree at first, and now that she is 15, she has the big one in the Family Room next to the Fireplace. She picks out and makes all her ornaments and designs her theme. And! I do mine in the Living Room! Ok, now, stop making faces and thinking I am being selfish! She loves her tree and we have a wonderful time decorating!

Both of our trees are fake. Yes, fake. Due to allergies we cannot have a live tree. This is great as we 'usually' put our trees up the day after Thanksgiving and leave up till Mid January. This brings me to my review!

Wreath Farm2 I was so excited to receive my Wreath from Grandma D's Tree and Wreath Farm last week! Upon opening the very well suited packaging, I was filled with the immediate sence of Christmas. Or should I say, 'scent' of Christmas! The Evergreen aroma filled my kitchen! A smell I have only got at Christmas through burning oils. Now I could hang the wreath up and enjoy the smell all month. The wreath was very fresh and well put together. I did not ever feel like it was going to fall apart as I pulled it out and then hung it up on my wall. I am allergic to a whole tree, but this was perfect. I did not need to put it outside. No way I was letting that fresh evergreen scent leave my house! I think most would find that as well, even if you have allergies. Unless you are like super sensitive. Anyone using fake trees? You so need this wreath!

Wreath Farm3 You can see it works perfectly as it separates my breakfast area and family room. It is such an eye catcher coming around the corner! The red bow, pine cones, juniper berries, and its size! Did I mention the size? This picture shows it about 9 feet up and you can see how big it still looks. I am only 5.3. It was very easy to hang too.

When the kids were small we always when through the woods looking for a cedar tree for our Christmas tree. They loved this time together looking for just the right tree..then people didnt care if you when on their land. But you cant do that today. We have always had a cedar tree, that was the only kind there was around here when my husband and i were growning up so hubby thought that was the kind we had to have.Oh, the smell of a cedar...yep like Christmas..I always let my kids and now grandkids decorate our tree, cause i knew one day they wouldnt be here to do it .And sure enough the day has come, my daughter lives in N.C. and son just moved to Washington state so this year no grandkids to help with the tree..Now that i can decorate the tree myself and have it just right...Well it just want be the same....So dont think there will be a tree for us this year...

I remember when our two litle boys were small we would all go as a family to get our Christmas Tree. It was usually an evergreen cedar that we had had our eyes on for awhile out in the fence row by our house. Oh, what excitement the little boys had about decorating the tree! We would put the tree up twelve days before Christmas. The second to the last thing we would put on the tree would be 24 candy canes. A candy cane for each one of our sweet little boys each day before Christmas. I would tell them that if all the candy was gone from the tree before Christmas Day it would mean that someone had eaten more than one each day. The last ornament I would put on the tree would be the lighted Star of Bethleham.

We have a fake one - I can't bear the idea of cutting down a tree for a few weeks. With a fake, we usually have it up from mid Nov to Mid Jan. I really prefer it that way - I get to experience the Christmas Season longer that way. I do however, love and miss the smell of pine - it really is pretty special! Now as for the calorie counter - pick me, pick me! ;-) I have been working out for a few months now and have lost 20lbs - just 40 more to go and I'll have made my goal. Now if I just hadn't developed tendonitis, which'll slow things down... :-( Blessings!

I remember growing up and dad bringing home the Christmas tree. We wouldn't get one until school let out for the holidays, then since dad worked for the Board of Education, he always brought home the tree from the school. They would of just thrown it out so dad would just give it a few more weeks of life. Then when I got married and had my own children, we used to always have a real tree. We would go and buy one on the first day off of school in December and then put it up and the kids would decorate it. After we would all sit around and have hot chocolate together.

I don't really remember when I started using a "fake" tree, but that is what we resorted to when I was left on my own with the kids. Now being by myself and in an apartment, I have gone even smaller with just a little table top tree that comes out of the box already decorated and just put up on the table. I have to admit last year it never even made it out of the box, and so far this year I haven't even gone looking for it.

LOL!!! I have to laugh because I let my daughter decorate but it is sooo hard for me! She always wants to be the little helper except when it comes to her room but I really have to go off and do something else or I will be behind her moving ornaments. I was looking at the tree last night and I just thought- if she thinks it is beautiful then so do I~ We do a snowman theme just cuz I love them. We have snowmen everywhere! I have been looking for a snowman nativity scene so if anyone knows where to get a cute one let me know! :)

Mary

Dianne, I do a Santa theme on our tree and most of our decor for Christmas time is in the Santa Theme. I think you should be able to find snowman nativity at some place like Current catalog or even on ebay:-)

We are very traditional. We do have a fake tree, but that is because we put the tree up on Thanksgiving day and take it down after the new year. Also we have family scattered about, and I dont want a fire hazzard standing in my home, whether we are home or not.

Our tradition is to get each member of our family one new ornament every year. Now the way that ornament is chosen is buy each persons deep interest for the year.

We have everything from antique angels to vaccuum cleaners on the tree. Each ornament has a story with it because of the intersts of the one it belongs to.

This year my oldest son became a EMT/Firefighter so he will get a firetruck. My youngest son will get a hard hat. My new grandbaby got a little girls baby's first ornament, and I am still working on the daughter-in-laws.

I also collect manger scenes, I try getting one each year and each one made form something different. I have wood, glass, plastic, crystal, and so forth.

Our tree tells a story and brings back wonderful memories every year when we as a family hang each ornament, whether we hang our own or each others it is a blessing!!

We used to get a real tree, but we got to the place where we couldn't even afford that. Then a neighbor bought us a fake one. We use that and are grateful for God's provision during that hard time. We can now go back to some of our former traditions since God has brought us into a season of prosperity. I bought new ornaments for each of my children this year. 10 new ornaments adds a lot to a tree! They're tailored to each child's interest or personality.

Last year, I was able to buy a small fake tree, and we used it as our Jesse tree which is decorated with ornaments that show the line of Jesus all the way through the Bible.

My daughter has a hibiscus tree that she tends and keeps alive through thick and thin. She decorated it with Christmas lights and a few ornaments this year. It's like Christmas in Hawaii!

I always think our Christmas tree is beautiful. I used to be so worried about the kids breaking the ornaments, and I would put off decorating the tree and then stress out during the decorating. Now I just let them do all the decorating, and I don't worry about broken ornaments any more. Most of the ones I use now aren't breakable anyway.

All of this shows me how much the Lord has changed me.

Our emphasis is Jesus now, but my kids like their Christmas tree and the trimmings. They like the continuity and connectedness they feel from observing the same traditions every year.

I remember 1n 1971, my son and daughter,( little kids at the time) decided we would decorate a Texas tumbleweed. We were so broke, we really couldn't afford a tree, and it was just the three of us.

We made kleenex snowballs and popcorn trim for that tumbleweed. For color, we added little orange and pink yarn bows all over it ( that's all the yarn I had, hehehe! ). It was really lovely!

My daughter, who is 40 now, still remembers how much fun we had decorating that tumbleweed. She laughs and tells her kids about it every year. What a blessed memory!
