The Chronological Study Bible NKJV in Review
I was very excited to become part of the Thomas Nelson Book Review Program for bloggers back in (ahem) October of last year. When I chose The Chronological Study Review Bible as my first book, I graciously emailed them and asked if I needed to read the whole bible before reviewing it. Obviously reading a book before reviewing is a criteria for the program. I would love to tell you it has taken me so long to write this review due to me reading this specific bible in its entirety. Judge me not, this is not the case.
In retrospect, I will tell you that I did not turn every page of The Chronological Study Review Bible. I did however go through every feature so I can give you a review you can depend on when deciding if this bible is for you. Did I just say, 'If this bible is for you?'
Explore God's Word In Historical Order
As my eyes got first glance at The Chronological Study Review Bible, I was certainly drawn to that phrase. I am a homeschooler. We are entering our 11 year and that just cried out, "Use me!" Everything in our house is a learning tool. It being in the New King James Version was a plus, making it easier for my 15 year old to pick up and peruse. Being in chronological order would keep it from being your only bible in the house, but it certainly opens your eyes to a new view. A view you most likely have never seen.
Dig Deeper into Cultures and People of Biblical Times
This bible is set up where you can get the full picture as you read about the people of bible times. Through the 'Background Notes', 'Daily Life' and 'The Cultural and Historical Topics' sections we gain incredible insight into their lives. Simple even as, Why was it that being the 1st born son, was such a privileged position in that of an ancient family?
Time Panels, Time Capsules, Time Charts, and Maps all paint out and complete the visual for us to grasp events, people and topics through out history as it pertains to the Word.
This bible does not try to replace your everyday bible. Inside the introduction you will read from the editors...
Rearranging the Bible is, of course, a fallible human effort.
Realizing that, I love what this bible has to offer. It offers what none of the other 15 bibles in my home offer. Which by the way, they each offer something unique. Be it geared towards worship leaders, women, parenting, leadership etc. I love all my bibles. This one plays very nicely and will not only be used in the classroom here at home. (although, talk about a Bible Study Course!) It's beautifully put together with an antique look, as if you were looking through the scrolls, along with beautiful illustrations. The organization of all the modules of information are clearly and cleverly placed among each page. You settle right into how the set up works and reading takes on a flow. I found it fascinating tying in all the insight that fills those modules. It does take me longer to read through a book though! But after wards, I have an new picture in my mind, and a better understanding of the book as a whole.
What a Journey! Yes, its a different way to approach the Word. Make sure to keep your favorite everyday bible close at hand, but add this one to your side table. As you read your everyday one, you might just find yourself picking up The Chronological Study Review Bible to better illustrate what your studying. I know I am addicted. And anything that can keep you addicted to getting into God's Word, is nothing to pass on!

I have this Bible - I got it for myself for Christmas, and I absolutely love it!! The articles and timelines are very helpful for putting Biblical events in historical context, along with a deeper understanding of "why" certain things were done the way they were. No sooner do I have a question than I turn the page and there's an article answering it. GREAT Bible!

Catrina, I too think of it more of a reference bible. I actually use NIV or Amplified versions of the bible in my daily reading. This bible is awesome though for putting it all together. I am such a visual person. :)

Noelle,
I just might have to buy another bible! Considering this is 'one plays very nicely', I might even be able to get my teens to play with it.
What interested me the most is the fact that while it is not your basic bible it will give you a new angle to look at Scripture, as any Bible study does.
God's Word is so good any way you slice it. And I love the NKJV!

I was at Barnes & Noble today and saw this Bible on the shelf. When I opened it to take a look, I was blown away by the history insight it provides. I always wondered why they made golden calf idols and now I know! This thing is just what I need to keep me interested in the Bible because I lose interest quickly; probably because I don't know the details of most of what I'm reading. Like the calf idols.
