Married to an Un-Believer

Here's a question to ponder - How is the life of a Christian woman when she is married to an un-believer? This question can be answered in many ways. This question is answered in many ways. Being married to an un-believer could feel just fine at times. It can be likened to the surface of an ocean or stream. On the top appears to be smooth and peaceful but the undercurrent can be deadly. Underneath the smooth tranquilizing layer of water are animals that can eat you alive and animals that can give you a sting that would make you wish you were being eaten alive. Today I want to talk about the blessings of being married to an un-believer.

Being married to an un-believer can feel like a curse. It could make us feel lonely, betrayed, depressed, sad and the stress can feel unbearable and even make us feel like we are going insane. But I want to let you know that being married to an un-believer is simply this - it's a blessing. WHAT! Could this be? Yes, my friend. If you are in the midst of a spiritual battle or are struggling with the fact that your husband is an un-believer, it may be hard to believe that this situation is a blessing and not a curse. We are the daughters of the King of kings. He delivered us from evil. Jesus died to give us life - not death.

You Are a Blessing!

In the midst of a spiritual battle is where your faith will grow strong. This is the time you take hold of the promises God has given to you. This is when you really read and seek to understand the 23 chapter of Psalm. You are a blessing to those who witness what you are going through as you faithfully seek the guidance of the Lord in your life. You are a blessing when you stand against Satan clothed in your full armor of God. You are a blessing as you pray for those who God lays on your heart. You are a blessing to those who see that the joy of the Lord is your strength. If you are a mother, you are a blessing to your children. You are a blessing to your husband.

Our Daily Bread

In the Lord's prayer, he teaches us that we need our daily bread. Our daily time in the Word. Our daily time with Him.

This, then is how you should pray: 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts,  as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. Matthew 6:9-15 NIV

We need our daily bread. It's important to me to know that Jesus loves me. I long to be close to Him daily. This isn't something that comes to me on its own - this desire comes to me through prayer, reading the Bible and just being in His presence when I don't have anything to say. I love Jesus. And He loves you and me.

When I am not in the Word as I know I should be, I seem to be more emotionally unstable. My feelings are fragile and it seems I don't communicate very well with others. I become self-conscious and insecure. I wish I could tell you that its easy for me to get into the Word all the time - but if I am honest with you, I sometimes come to a place when it becomes a struggle for me to sit down and get into the Word. Distractions come from all around. Ladies when you come to this point, don't panic. Don't question your walk with God.  Just press in. It's during those times when someone else needs your prayers. It's at those times when doing unto others is what we should do. It's at those times when we need to ask someone to pray for us or with us.

When being married to an un-believer, the load we seem to have to bear appears to be uneven. Here's what Jesus has to say about that:

All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those whom the Son chooses to reveal him. Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Matthew 11:27-29 NIV

We serve a wonderful and loving God. God cares for you so much. You can't even imagine how much he cares for you. You are a blessing to so many people.

Father, I lift up to you the women who cry out to you with a longing to serve You alongside their husbands. Holy Spirit fill their hearts with a peace that surpasses all understanding and give to them the desires of their hearts as they seek to do Your will. Father I pray that these ladies be showered with a joy that will give them strength each day, each hour, each moment. And Father, I ask that you love our husbands through us because sometimes we just don't know how to. In the precious and holy name of your Son Jesus Christ.

Very comforting message; thank you. In the midst of the difficult times, He is faithful. Spending time in His presence fills me to overflowing with Him. The fruit of the Spirit is a byproduct of submitting all of my "self' to Him. That fruit is something I can't manufacture. The Lord does that and others can't help but take notice.
