How to Make a Picture Link Back to a Website

How does everyone take a picture and then make it where when you click on it, and it takes you to somewhere on the web? This might be for making a badge for your website or just a fun, useful graphic to link people to another spot on your site or someone else's.

Remember, as long as you have the link to something, like your RSS feed or a very special post on your site etc., you can use any graphic and link it to that spot on the web!

You can see for Our RSS feed here at Take Root and Write I customized a regular RSS feed button just for us. Then I have coded it to link to the TRW feed so you can sign up.

 I am including a Video Tutorial to walk you through how to do this. Below is all the text used in the video so you can copy and paste for yourself. Keep the code handy in a draft email (that's what I do) so you can pull it up, copy, paste & edit where you want it.

How to make a Code & Box for Your Blog Badge, MeMe, or Pic Link!

Today in Computer Coaching I am addressing something a little more sophisticated. You wont need to learn this if you don't ever want to make a pic link/badge for your Blog or Meme, or to announce something by posting a picture then when someone clicks on it, it takes them back to a place you want them to go.

A lot of women have asked me how to do this and there are already places on the web that explain. But I am going to show you anyway, so you have the info right at hand with all you need!

Let's do an example of what I mean. Let's use, Take Root and Write.

You have probably seen this on the right side of our site. It is our TRW pic link or Badge. Whatever you want to call it. It is the 'symbol' of our site. Under it you see a code inside a box. If you were to click in the box, highlight all the code and copy it to your virtual clipboard, then go paste it somewhere, anywhere HTML is allowed, then our Take Root Write Badge would APPEAR in that spot!

Not only that but when someone clicks on it, no matter where it is, it will lead them back to the main page of TRW.

You will see these all over the blog community and actually most websites. If you have or want to create a meme, you would need to do this so others can support and take part in your meme.

So HOW DO WE DO THIS?

First: You need a picture/badge. (like ours to the left)

Second: You need to HOST your picture on photobucket. That's simple enough. Just sign up and upload your pic. Follow the instructions.

Third: You need the Direct Link for your now hosted picture. Simple. Just click on 'Direct Link' in PB by your picture. It is now copied to your virtual clipboard.

Fourth: We will now insert (paste)  this Direct link into the code below where it says, DIRECT PIC LINK HERE.
Careful here! You want to make sure to ONLY put the link in, dont erase anything but the words...

Fifth: Now you need the direct website link that will lead people to where you want them. Like for our TRW badge, it leads you to  http://www.takerootandwrite.com/
So, Copy your direct link and now insert it into the code below where it says, WEB LINK HERE.

Are You Utilizing iTunes? Podcasting, let it open a new door!

So! You have heard of iTunes, I am sure. Have you hesitated to download it because you think you wont use it? I am going to open the door to you today on the oh so limitless uses of iTunes. We all know we can purchase music, videos, tv shows, movies from iTunes. But what about all the free content on iTunes? Mostly what we will focus on in iTunes today will be FREE, yes free. Free content that can help you in your daily walk as a christian. Free content that can teach how to speak another language or practice new vocabulary. Learn a new hobby, such as photography, yoga or even cooking! How about free literature, the classics and and even bed time stories read aloud to you or your child? Visiting a museum, new city? Take along your iPod with your uploaded podcast of audio that will walk you through all that you are seeing. Podcasts are free and come as video or audio. All you need is to download iTunes for your computer. Which again is free. Do you need an iPod? No! You can listen or watch via your computer. Having an iPod, even the $40 shuffle can make all the difference though! You have instant access wherever you go. iPods are not just for music. Come on, take a step further into the 21st Century with me.  It's educational, it's fun and it's Free! What do you have to lose!

Let's Start @ the Very Beginning, It's a Very Good Place to Start...

Alright, so I am wired for music, thus the title. Not so much into The Sound of Music, but, none the less reminds us that we need to start at the beginning. The ABC's of growing in your computerness. Yes, I know that is not a word. I made it up. But it will do just fine.

I am going to layout each one of these little computer coaching sessions the same way. We will begin with an intro of what we will cover. Followed by me including a Video Tutorial so you can watch along. (as many times as you need to) You will see the pic that says, 'Click HERE for Video'. Clicking on that pic will open up a new window that will take you to the video tutorial. There you can watch it and then close and return here!

Then to bring our session to a close, I will leave you with any links or final information you will need to use what was introduced and to put it into action!
Some will find these sessions very, very, very basic to start. But I need to start here. I know 85% of my friends will not know how to do these first sessions. So I know there are many more like them out there. Remember I am on a Mac/ Apple/ Not Windows. So somethings might look a tad different. Don't panic, although very different, what we will be doing will be fine. If its time for a new computer, check out your Apple Dealer.

Since we are on the internet, I want to start with...

Browser, Menu Bar, Tool Bar, Using your mouse to right click and to choose commands, opening a new window & or tab while browsing, bookmarking sites, organizing bookmarks with folders and sub-folders.

You will need all of the above to be able to stay on top of where we go next. So, no skipping. Get ready! Your first Video Tutorial is next. Grab some coffee, turn up your volume and watch. You can always watch again by clicking the pic again and use stop, pause and rewind as you begin to do what is taught on your own. If you don't get on and practice, you wont keep up for next time!
